President Speaks Out Against Anti-Semitic Attacks

President Trump has publicly condemned anti-Semitic hate crimes that occurred across the country over Presidents Day weekend—including some 200 gravestones vandalized in a Jewish cemetery in suburban St. Louis and 11 bomb threats phoned in to synagogues across the country.

The statement that “anti-Semitic threats targeting our Jewish communities and our Jewish community centers are horrible, and are painful” generated response from many diverse Jewish, Christian and other sources, citing the importance of such direct utterances from the White House in support of religious respect and tolerance.

The President’s condemnation of anti-Semitism “is as welcome as it is overdue,” said Rabbi Jonah Dov Pesner, director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, reported in Religion News Service.

Numerous media around the world published comments and reaction from the religious freedom advocacy community. Read the Christian Science Monitor story and Reuters/Jerusalem Post story.
